Reflecting on the Year and Setting Intentions for Growth

Hello there!

As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the journey behind us and the possibilities that lie ahead. This time of year always invites us to pause, acknowledge our accomplishments, and look within to understand our strengths and the areas we’re still working on. It’s a gentle reminder that growth isn’t about perfection but about continual learning—sometimes through discomfort—to become the best version of ourselves. Discomfort, in fact, is a signpost of growth, guiding us toward our true potential and the power that resides within each of us. 🚀✨

For me, this year was a chapter of personal and professional transformation. In 2023, I graduated as a holistic life coach, and I’m now steadily building my coaching business. Trying to figure things out on my own has granted me a profound sense of agency—aligning with my natural skills and feeling a purposeful connection to this work. My intention last year was to focus on mastering my coaching abilities while diving deeper into a new area of interest: hormonal health. This led to a mix of Zoom calls, behind-the-scenes work, and moments of intentional isolation as I honed my skills and immersed myself in studying the complexities of our bodies. 📚💖

As a 45-year-old woman, you’d think I’d be familiar with how my feminine body works, but I discovered there was so much more to learn. This journey into hormonal health was eye-opening, and it was empowering to acquire tools that help me—and my clients—connect with the natural rhythms of our bodies. Each day of learning reminded me that it’s never too late to deepen our understanding and tap into new ways to support ourselves and others.

A Personal Story of Growth and Resilience

Several years ago, when my daughter started kindergarten, I reached a crossroads. I faced a decision between expanding our family or dedicating time to my personal development. After careful thought, I chose to reconnect with myself, a journey that took me to unexpected places, including fashion school in Milan. It was a bold choice, especially since I couldn’t draw and had little confidence in my artistic skills. Yet I took the leap, pouring myself into learning design basics and commuting to the fashion capital daily. ✨👗

However, after a year and a half, I realized that juggling motherhood, a husband who was often traveling, and the lack of nearby family support was no walk in the park! The overwhelming demands led to frustration and feelings of failure. So, I stepped away from fashion school, carrying those heavy emotions with me. But looking back at the sketches I’d made, I was struck by the progress. The experience taught me to celebrate how far I’d come, even if I couldn’t see it at the time. It reminded me that patience and self-compassion are essential companions on any journey.

After fashion school, I tried for years to expand our family, but as many of us know, it doesn’t always go as planned. I experienced the highs and lows of pregnancy and loss, and the heartbreak of sharing that news with my young daughter. It was a difficult time, but the journey taught me to be resilient and find strength in the present. While we didn’t expand our family as we’d hoped, the experience helped me understand that my identity goes beyond motherhood.

So, I began asking myself: What dreams lie ahead for me? What am I called to do now? After months of self-reflection, I discovered a new path in holistic life coaching, which aligned perfectly with my desire to support others. I embarked on a transformative journey, learning about the mind-body connection, breaking negative thought patterns, and building a community dedicated to wellness. I completed my certification in 2023, and since then, I’ve been helping others discover their own paths with intention, clarity, and purpose. 🌱💪

Looking Forward: Setting Intentions for the Coming Year

As I look to the year ahead, my promise to myself is to keep moving forward with my personal and professional development, embracing curiosity and courage every step of the way! 🌟 I hope to inspire you, too, to reflect on your journey, acknowledge how far you’ve come, and set new intentions for the year ahead.

To help you explore this idea, I invite you to try an exercise: write a letter to yourself. In this letter, express gratitude for everything you’ve achieved this year and outline what you’re excited about for the next year. Here’s a simple structure you can follow:

1. Start with Gratitude: Write down at least three things you’re grateful for from this past year.

2. Acknowledge Your Journey: Reflect on the challenges you faced and how they helped you grow.

3. Set an Intention: Make a promise to yourself for the coming year. This could be a commitment to continue moving forward with your personal and professional development, staying curious, or finding courage in new experiences. ✍️💖

4. Seal It Up: Once you’ve finished, seal your letter and tuck it away. Set a reminder to read it next year on the same date. It’s like making a promise to yourself!

Thank you for being part of this community! Together, let’s embrace the journey ahead, filled with curiosity, courage, and perhaps a few delightful surprises. 🎈✨ As we gear up for the new year, remember: your dreams are like stars—they may seem far away, but with each step you take, you’re getting closer to shining bright! 🌟

So grab your journals, set those intentions, and let’s make magic happen together! Here’s to a year overflowing with laughter, growth, and the occasional dance party in our living rooms! 💃🕺 Let’s trust the process and celebrate every moment—because life is too short to be anything but fabulous! 🎉

With all my love and excitement for the journey ahead,

Miriam Mettioui
